DESCRIPTION: ...HIGH SURF WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI...NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI AND WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND... ...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND... .Although the extra large northwest swell is now declining, surf along exposed north and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, north facing shores of Maui, and west facing shores of the Big Island will remain at warning levels this evening and tonight. Surf along these shores is expected to lower to advisory levels Thursday. Additionally, advisory level surf will remain possible along north facing shores of the Big Island through tonight. * WHAT...For north facing shores, surf of 20 to 30 feet this evening, lowering to 20 to 25 feet by early Thursday morning. For west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai, surf of 15 to 20 feet. For west facing shores of the Big Island, surf of 8 to 12 feet. * WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, north facing shores of Maui, and west facing shores of the Big Island. * WHEN...Until 6 AM HST Thursday. * IMPACTS...High. Expect very strong breaking waves and powerful currents. Waves breaking in channel entrances may make navigating the channels dangerous.

INSTRUCTION: Stay away from the shoreline along the affected coasts. Be prepared for road closures. Postpone entering or leaving channels affected by the high surf until the surf subsides.

Stratocumulus clouds are similar to altocumulus clouds in their fluffy appearance, but have a slightly darker shade due to their additional mass.

A good way to distinguish the two cloud types is to hold your hand out and measure the size of an individual cloud; if it is the size of your thumb it is generally an altocumulus cloud, if it is the size of your hand it is generally a stratocumulus cloud.

It is uncommon for stratocumulus clouds to produce precipitation, but if they do it is usually a light rain or snow.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud, and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.

Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud takes shape.

Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.
